Department of State: Division of Professional Regulation: Board of Geologists

Renewal of License

Information About Renewal Applications

Geologist licenses expire on September 30 of even years (e.g., 2010, 2012).

Several weeks before your license expiration date, a renewal notice will be mailed to the address on your record. This notice will explain how to access the online renewal application. To complete the online renewal application, you must use a credit card to pay your renewal fee. The notice will also explain how to request a paper renewal application if you are unable to renew online.

Please keep your contact information in our records up-to-date so that notices we send will reach you.  To check and update your contact information online, click here.

To renew an active license, you will need to provide information about your CE and geology seal.

For information on continuing education (CE) requirements, refer to Section 6.0 of the Board's Rules and Regulations. Section 6.8 lists the categories of CE and the maximum credits allowed in each. Lists of approved courses and approved providers are also available on the website.

How to Renew an Expired License

If you do not renew your license before the expiration date, your license will expire. It is illegal to practice geology while your license is expired.

You may renew an expired license for a period of one year after the expiration date by submitting a renewal application online and paying a late fee. However, if the license has been lapsed for more than one year, you must reapply as a new applicant or by reciprocity.
