HOW TO APPLY FOR AN ORIGINAL DELAWARE PROFESSIONAL LAND SURVEYOR LICENSE
These instructions apply to applicants who are filing for an original license as a professional land surveyor license by examination. If the applicant holds a current license in another state, please see the instructions for applying by reciprocity.
It is important to follow these instructions carefully. Examination and licensure may be delayed if the applicant submits incomplete forms, incorrect forms and/or fees.
Requirements for All Applicants
Please submit the following items directly to the office of the Delaware Board of Professional Land Surveyors ("the Board") at the following address:
Board of Professional Land Surveyors
Cannon Building, Suite 203
861 Silver Lake Boulevard
Dover DE 19904
-
Completed, signed and notarized Professional Land Surveyor Application (please follow instructions on form).
- Pro-rated processing fee by check or money order, made payable to "State of Delaware". This fee is non-refundable.
- Official transcript sent directly from the college or university to the Board office. For information about educational qualifications, see 24 Del. C. 2708
- Experience Verification Forms completed by two (2) professional land surveyors attesting to the applicant's experience.
- If already passed, scores on the NCEES examination, sent directly to the Board Office from either NCEES (see www.ncees.org) or the State jurisdiction where the exam was taken.
When the above documentation is submitted, the Board will review the application at its next meeting.
Scheduling the Examination
If not already passed, applicants for a new license must take the NCEES Principles and Practices of Surveyors and Fundamentals of Surveying Examination. For details about the exam, see www.ncees.org. Applicants must also take the Delaware State Drainage Examination.
The Division of Professional Regulation offers the examinations listed above annually in April and October. The application, all required documentation and the appropriate pro-rated processing fee must be received no later than 60 days before the examination date.
If the Board approves the applicant to sit for the examination(s), the Board office will notify the applicant of the test date(s) and the examination fee due. The examination fees must be paid prior to the test date(s).
Note: Temporary licenses are not available.
Notification of Examination Results
The Board office will notify the applicant of all examination results in writing.
The written notification of a passing score is not a license to practice. If the applicant passes the examinations, the Board will consider the application for licensure during its next meeting. If approved, the Board office will issue the license.
If the applicant fails the examination, the applicant may re-take the examination. The instructions for re-testing are sent with the notification that the applicant failed.
