Information About Renewal Applications

Several weeks before your license expiration date, a renewal notice will be mailed to the address on your record. This notice will explain how to access the online renewal application. To complete the online renewal application, you must use a credit card to pay your renewal fee. 

Online renewal is not available for ACGME Training licenses.

Renewing Respiratory Care Practitioner Licensure

Respiratory Care Practitioner licenses expire on November 30 of even-numbered years (2016, 2018, etc.). If you fail to renew by the expiration date, see Renewing an Expired License below.

To renew, you must certify that you have completed the Mandatory Training in addition to the Continuing Medical Education (CME) required by the RCPAC Rules and Regulations. You may be selected for audit of your CME following the renewal.

Renewing Licensure for Physicians, Physician Assistants, Acupuncture Practitioners and Genetic Counselors

Physician M.D., Physician D.O., Physician Assistant, Acupuncture Practitioner, and Genetic Counselor licenses expire on March 31 of odd-numbered years (2017, 2019, etc.). If you fail to renew by the expiration date, see Renewing an Expired License below.

You must certify that you have completed the Mandatory Training in addition to the Continuing Medical Education (CME) required by the Rules and Regulations for your license. You may be selected for audit of your CME following the renewal.

Note that, if you hold a controlled substance registration, you must file a separate renewal application. See Controlled Substances Registration Renewal.

Renewing Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist Licensure

Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist licenses expire on March 31 of odd-numbered years (2017, 2019, etc.). If you fail to renew by the expiration date, see Renewing an Expired License below.

You must certify that you are currently certified by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) or an equivalent organization. You may be selected for audit of your certification following the renewal. You must also attest that you have completed the Mandatory Training.

Renewing Polysomnographer Licensure

Polysomnographer licenses expire on March 31 of odd-numbered years (2017, 2019, etc.). If you fail to renew by the expiration date, see Renewing an Expired License below.

You must certify that you have:

  • completed the Mandatory Training in addition to the Continuing Medical Education (CME) required by the Rules and Regulations for Polysomnographers
  • active credentials in good standing as either a Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist CPSGT, RPSGT, or as a National Board of Respiratory Care SDS
  • current Basic Life Support certification that includes hands on skills training.

You may be selected for audit of your CME and certifications following the renewal.

Renewing ACGME Training Licensure

ACGME Training licenses expire on March 31 of each year. Online renewal is not available for ACGME Training licenses. A paper renewal application will be sent to your address of record several weeks before the expiration date. This will be your only notice. For your renewal in odd-numbered years (2017, 2019, etc.), you must attest that you have completed the Mandatory Training.

Renewing an Expired License

If you do not renew your license before the expiration date, your license will expire. It is illegal to practice in Delaware while your license is expired.

Physician M.D., Physician D.O., Physician Assistant, Acupuncture Practitioner, Acupuncture Detoxification Specialist and Genetric Counselor licensees may file a late renewal application up to one year after the expiration date. On the application, you must certify that you have not practiced while your license was expired. You must also pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. If you fail to renew by the end of the one-year period, your license will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reapply for licensure.

Polysomnographer licensees may file a late renewal application up to 60 days after the expiration date. On the application, you must certify that you have not practiced while your license was expired. You must also pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. If you fail to renew by the end of the 60-day period, your license will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reapply for licensure.

Respiratory Care Practitioners may file a late renewal application up to one year after the expiration date. On the application, you must certify that you have not practiced while your license was expired. You must also pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. If you fail to renew by the end of the one-year period, your license will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reapply for licensure.
