How to Apply for a New (or Initial) LPCMH License

To apply for the Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health (LPCMH) by certification, submit the following:

  • Completed, signed and notarized Professional Counselor Application including the Notarized Affidavit affirming you meet the qualifications as stated in 24 Delaware Code, Chapter 30, Section 3032(a) (1) through (6).
  • Pro-rated processing fee by check or money order made payable to the "State of Delaware."
  • Official transcript showing completed graduate degree, sent directly to the Board office from the college or university.
  • Completed Direct Supervision Reference and Professional Counseling Experience Reference forms showing professional counseling experience and professional direct supervision. Professional counseling experience must consist of not less than 3,200 hours over a period of not more than four (4) years, at least 1,600 hours of which must have been under professional direct supervision acceptable to the Board. The experience must be obtained in a clinical mental health setting acceptable to the Board.

Note: Certified School Counselors and Certified School Psychologists are not approved for supervision. The following licensed supervisors are acceptable to the Board:

  1. Licensed Professional Counselor of Mental Health
  2. Licensed Clinical Social Worker
  3. Licensed Psychologist
  4. Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist
  5. Licensed Physician specializing in psychiatry

Note: The following national mental health organizations are acceptable to the Board:

  1. Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification Board
  2. National Association of Forensic Counselors (NAFC)
  3. Northamerican Association of Masters in Psychology (NAMP)
