License Renewal

Information About Renewal Applications for All Licenses

Professional Counselor, Chemical Dependency Professional and Marriage and Family Therapist licenses expire on September 30 of even years (e.g., 2010, 2012). Associate Counselor and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist licenses expire two years from the date they are issued.

Several weeks before your license expiration date, a renewal notice will be mailed to the address on your record. This notice will explain how to access the online renewal application. To complete the online renewal application, you must use a credit card to pay your renewal fee.

Please keep your contact information in our records up-to-date so that notices we send will reach you.  To check and update your contact information online, click Change Contact Information.

How to Request Inactive Status or Reactivate

If you are not actively practicing in Delaware, you may submit a written request to place your license on inactive status to the Board office.

To reactivate an inactive license, see Section 2.5 of the Board’s Rules and Regulations : Section 2.4.3 for Professional Counselors, Section 4.4 for Chemical Dependency Professionals and Section 5.4 for Marriage and Family Therapists.

How to Renew a Lapsed License

If you do not renew by the expiration date, your license will lapse. It is illegal for you to hold yourself out to the public as having an active license while your license is lapsed.

You may renew a license late for a period of one year after the expiration date by submitting a renewal application online and paying a late fee. If you renew late, your CE will be audited. However, if the license has been lapsed for more than one year, you must reapply as a new applicant or by reciprocity.
