Question: How do I obtain a Temporary Practice Permit?

Answer:

  1. Applications may be obtained from this website or by contacting the Council's office. The Council will also accept the universal temporary practice permit application form located at the AARO website, www.aaro.net.
  2. Submit completed application, along with required fee. Check or money order should be made payable to the "State of Delaware". See Fee Schedule.
  3. A letter of good standing/verification of license must be received from the applicant's primary state of licensure. The Delaware Council on Real Estate Appraisers will also verify licensure through the Appraisal Subcommittee's National Registry prior to the issuance of a temporary practice permit.

 

Question: How do I apply through reciprocity?

Answer:

  1. The reciprocity licensure application may be obtained from this website or by contacting the Council's office.
  2. Processing fees are prorated according to the month the application is post-marked by the mailing source or hand-delivered to the Council's office. See Fee Schedule.
  3. A letter of good standing/verification of license must be received from each state in which the applicant is currently licensed or has been licensed in the past.

 

Question: How do I notify the Council of a change of address?

Answer: Licensed or certified appraisers may change their address online at our website www.dpr.delaware.gov. A change of address may also be submitted in writing (by mail, email or fax) to the Council's office.

 

Question: How do I request a written license verification?

Answer: Mail requests to the Council's office along with required verification fee. See Request Written License Verification.

 

Question: How do I renew my license?

Answer: Information regarding the license renewal process is mailed to licensees approximately 6 weeks prior to the license expiration date. Verification of continuing education must be submitted evidencing completion of courses taken to fulfill the continuing education requirements. Twenty-eight (28) hours of continuing education are required during a 2-year licensure cycle. Delaware Regulation 2.3.2 requires that at least 7 of those hours must be the 7-hour National USPAP update course or an approved equivalent, and 2 hours must be a 2-hour course on Delaware law, Rules and Regulations.

 

Question: How do I apply for a trainee license?

Answer:

  1. Applications may be obtained from this website or by contacting the Council's office.
  2. The applicant must have completed 75 hours of qualifying education before submitting their application for Council approval. Photocopies of certificates of completion for qualifying education courses must be submitted with the application form.
  3. A sponsor (supervisor of trainee) must complete a Verification of Appraiser Trainee form stating that he/she will be supervising the trainee. This form is part of the application.
  4. There is no experience or examination requirement.

 

Question: How do I apply to sit for a licensed real property appraiser, certified residential or certified general examinations? How do I apply to upgrade to a licensed real property appraiser, certified residential or certified general status?

Answer:

  1. Applications for a licensed real property appraiser, certified residential or certified general status may be obtained from this website or by contacting the Council's Office. Education and experience requirements are distributed by the Council as part of the application packet and may also be obtained via this web site Informational Supplement to Regulations.
  2. The completed application must be submitted to the Council's office along with photocopies of certificates of completion verifying that the qualifying education requirements have been met.
  3. The applicant must submit the required pro-rated fee. See Fee Schedule.
  4. The applicant must also submit a photocopy of his or her Experience Log
    for Council review and approval.
  5. The Council will review the application and supporting documentation at its meeting and determine whether the applicant qualifies to sit for the examination. If approval is granted, the applicant will be advised and provided with the necessary forms to contact the examination service.
  6. When official verification of successful completion of the exam is received from the exam service, the Council will review the application and the report of grade for approval of the new license.
  7. Following approval of the license, the license will be issued.

 

Question: Are real estate appraisers in Delaware required to carry E & O insurance?

Answer: The Delaware Council on Real Estate Appraisers does not require Delaware licensed or certified real estate appraisers to carry E & O insurance.
