New Prescription Drug Database Tool to Reduce Abuse and Diversion


Delaware Prescription Monitoring Program - Launch Delaware took a significant step forward in its efforts to combat prescription drug abuse and diversion this week with the official launch of the Delaware Prescription Monitoring Program (PMP). In 2010, Governor Jack Markell signed the Delaware Prescription Monitoring Act which authorizes the Division of Professional Regulation-an agency of the Delaware Department of State-to establish, maintain and monitor the PMP in order to reduce misuse of controlled substances and promote improved professional practice and patient care.

"Prescription drug abuse is the fastest-growing drug problem in Delaware and the nation, and it continues to destroy families and communities," said Governor Markell. "Prescription drug monitoring is one of the best means we have to combat this issue for the safety and welfare of all Delawareans." read more

Senior Leadership Team Recognized as a Finalist for the 2010 Governor's Team Excellence Award


The Division's Senior Leadership Team was recognized as a finalist for the 2010 Governor's Team Excellence Award at an event and presentation by Secretary of State Jeffrey Bullock and Barbara McCleary, Office of Management & Budget.

The Division of Professional Regulation's Senior Leadership Team (SLT) was recognized for their transformation of the organization by restructuring the administrative unit into three service teams, a call center and an operations support team. These changes, coupled with increased automation and more efficient processes, enhanced customer service and public protection.

Professional Regulation Receives Employer Of The Year Award


The Delaware Division of Professional Regulation was honored with the “Employer of the Year” award at the Goodwill of Delaware and Delaware County, Inc. Annual Awards program held on April 25, 2008 at the Chase Center on the Riverfront,.

The division was recognized as an organization that harmonizes with Goodwill’s mission of providing work opportunities to individuals with barriers to employment and supporting them in a professional work environment.

The division began their relationship with Goodwill Staffing Services in April 2006 largely in response to fulfilling the division’s hiring needs. Today, seven Goodwill employees help the division fulfill its mission to “protect the public”.

Delaware Secretary of State Harriet Smith Windsor and Director James Collins accepted the award before the 600- plus attendees of distinguished guests and honorees.

Director James Collins stated, “I cannot think of a more important reason to receive an award than for treating employees well.”

Effective May 1, 2008, the Division of Professional Regulation (DPR) must receive completed applications with all of the required documentation and fees ten working days prior to the board meeting.

Board And Commission Member Appointments

The Division of Professional Regulation accomplishes its mission to credential qualified professionals and protect the citizens of Delaware by partnering with 32 regulatory boards and commissions. The Governor's Office and the division rely on Delaware's citizens to serve as board and commission members to carry out this very vital aspect of government service. These regulatory boards are comprised of both professional and public members.

Governor Jack Markell makes appointments to various boards and commissions of the State of Delaware and handles the board appointment process through his office. If you are interested in learning more about the board appointment process, you may obtain information here.
