License Renewal

Renewal Information for Pilots

All classes of Pilot licenses, with the exception of Apprentices, expire on November 30th of each year.

A few months before the expiration date of your license, a renewal notice will be sent to the email address on the record. This notice will explain how to access your online renewal application in DELPROS, our new online licensure system. To complete the online renewal application, you must log-in to your account, answer questions, and use a credit/ card to pay your renewal fee.

All notices about professional licenses, such as renewal and audit notices, will be sent by email only. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date so that all the notices we send reach you. To check and update your contact information online, click on Manage Profile link in DELPROS.

Vessel Requirement for Renewal

On the renewal application in DELPROS, you are asked to certify that you have read the current Rules of the Nautical Road and that you have rendered pilot service to at least 52 vessels during the year leading up to the expiration of your license.

Physical Examination Requirement for Renewal

All Pilots, regardless of class, are required to pass a physical examination every year and to submit a US Coast Guard Application for Medical Certificate form (CG-719K). Your license will not be issued until the Board office receives and reviews the physical examination form.

Requesting Inactive Status and Reactivating

If you hold an active license but are not practicing in Delaware, you may request to place your license in inactive status by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. You must request inactive status before the expiration date of your license. If your expiration date has passed, you must first renew your license, then request inactive status. You cannot practice in Delaware while your license is in inactive status. Your license may remain in inactive status for up to five years.

To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reactivate your license by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. For more information on reactivating an inactive license, see the License Law .

If you fail to reactivate during the five-year period, your license will terminate. If you wish to resume practicing after your license has terminated, you must reapply in DELPROS as a new applicant.
