Proposed Amendment to the ASLP-IC Rule on Implementation of Criminal Background Check Requirement. This notice is essential to inform the public and provide them with an opportunity to comment.

Purpose: ASLP-IC member states’ implementation and utilization of procedures for considering the criminal history records of applicants for an initial privilege to practice is required by the model legislation.

Important Information About the New Speech/Language Pathology Assistant License

On September 19, 2024, Senate Bill 320 was signed into legislation to amend Chapter 37 of Title 24. This Act creates a new license type for a Speech/Language Pathology Assistant, under the Board of Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, and Hearing Aid Dispensers to address the shortage of speech/language pathology services in the State, specifically in public schools.

A licensed Speech/Language Pathology Assistant will be required to practice under the supervision of a Delaware-licensed Speech/Language Pathologist.

The Audiology and Speech-Language Pathology Interstate Compact (ASLP-IC) allows eligible licensed audiologists and speech-language pathologists an alternative method for providing services in other member states. Objective and Function

The primary objective of the Delaware Board of Speech Pathologists, Audiologists, and Hearing Aid Dispensers is to protect the public from unsafe practices and practices which tend to reduce competition or fix prices for services. The Board must also maintain standards of professional competence and service delivery. To meet these objectives, the Board

  • develops standards for professional competency
  • promulgates rules and regulations
  • adjudicates complaints against professionals and, when necessary, imposes disciplinary sanctions.

The Board issues licenses to speech/language pathologists, audiologists and hearing aid dispensers..

The Board’s statutory authority is in 24 Del. C., Chapter 37.

 

Meetings

Unless notified otherwise, the Board meets the third Tuesday of each month at 2:00 p.m., except April and December. All meetings are open to the general public and are held in the Cannon Building, 861 Silver Lake Boulevard, in Dover.The meeting schedule is available at the State of Delaware public meeting calendar.

The Board may need to review and approve your application for licensure and will only review a complete application. A complete application includes your application and any documentation submitted through DELPROS and/or any documents submitted through the mail or email from third-parties. The Board will review your documentation at its next scheduled meeting.
