The VTNE is a computer-based examination that Veterinary Technicians may take each year in summer, fall or late winter/early spring. The American Association of Veterinary State Boards (AAVSB) owns and administers the VTNE.
Note: See VTNE for information about the exam, including information for testing sites, dates of testing, and the VTNE Candidate Information Booklet.
The NAVLE is a 360-item computer-based multiple-choice examination and given twice a year; once in the spring and once in the fall. Passing the NAVLE is a requirement for licensure to practice veterinary medicine in all licensing jurisdictions in North America.
The International Council for Veterinary Assessment (ICVA) provides standardized examinations for use by licensing boards as part of their veterinarian licensure process.
Note: The NAVLE replaced both the National Board Examination (NBE) and the Clinical Competency Test (CCT) in November 2000.
The Board of Veterinary Medicine must approve you to sit for the VTNE or NAVLE. To apply to take the required exam(s), you must first create a DELPROS user account. Go to the DELPROS online portal, then click on Apply/Manage a License and Service Requests.
If you are already an existing user, log in with your email address and password under the existing user section. If you have not yet created a DELPROS user account, click on Register.
After creating your user account or logging into the DELPROS online portal, you may begin your application for licensure to take the required exam(s).
When the Board approves your application to sit for the exam, you will receive an email stating that you have been approved to sit for the exam.
Your application is valid for two years from the date you submit it in DELPROS. You may register before you receive the Board’s approval; however, registering for the exam does not guarantee eligibility. You will be required to complete a new online application if your application expires.
Note: Direct all questions about the VTNE registration process to the AAVSB.
