The Board of Architects must approve you to sit for the ARE examination. To apply to take the required exam(s), you must first create a DELPROS user account.  Go to the DELPROS online portal, and then click on Apply/Manage a License and Service Requests. If you:

• are already an existing user, log in with your email address and password under the existing user section.
• have not yet created a DELPROS user account, click on Register.

After creating your user account or logging into the DELPROS online portal, you may begin your application for licensure to take the required exam(s).

When the Board has reviewed and approved your application, you will receive an email notification stating you have been approved to sit for the exam. The Board office will notify the National Council of Architect Registration Boards (NCARB) of your approval to test.

You have six months from the date of your approval to sit for your first division of the ARE.

You must register for the exam before your application expires to allow adequate time to schedule a testing appointment. Your application, once submitted and paid for, is valid for two years from the date of submission. You will be required to complete a new online application when your application expires.

Register online at Start ARE Registration. For more information regarding the examination process or eligibility, refer to NCARB at NCARB/Pass-the-ARE. You have five years, starting with the date you sit for and pass the first division, to complete all divisions of the exam battery (see NCARB Rolling Clock).

Prometric will send you an Authorization to Test. Your Authorization to Test will include your name, address, candidate identification number, registration board, and all divisions of the ARE in which you were made eligible.

• It is important that the name printed on your Authorization to Test matches the name printed on your primary form of identification.
• If your name is incorrect or you have changed your name, submit a Service Request for a name change from your DELPROS dashboard.
• Do not schedule an appointment to test until your receive a corrected Authorization to Test.

To change the address on your authorization to test, you must contact the ARE Helpline and NCARB. NCARB and Prometric are not responsible for lost, misdirected, or delayed mail.

If you fail the exam, you must log in to My NCARB and click on your NCARB record. Go to “Exams”, then click “Request Eligibility”.

To request approval to re-take the ARE go to DELPROS and log in to your e-License Dashboard. Click on Service Request in the top navigation bar, then click APPLY FOR A NEW SERVICE REQUEST and select the Request for Re-Examination service request type option.

After review and approval of your request, you will receive an email notification for approval to re-take the ARE.

Allow up to two weeks for the Board office to receive your official examination scores. After you have passed all divisions of the ARE, the Board office will validate that you have met all requirements for licensure and issue your license.

You will receive an email notification stating your license has been issued including any additional details about license renewal and/or continuing education requirements.
