Information on How to Apply for a License in DELPROS

All applications are submitted our online system DELPROS.

  • Click on the titles below in each section to expand the information.
In order to apply for a license or submit a service request, you must first have a DELPROS user account. To LOG IN or CREATE a DELPROS (Delaware Professional Regulation Online Services) user account:

  1. Go to: https://delpros.delaware.gov/OH_HomePage.
  2. Click GO on the Apply/Manage a License and Service Requests tile.
  3. If you do not have a DELPROS user account, click the REGISTER button on the left side of page for NEW USERS.
  4. If you already have a DELPROS user account, enter your email address and password on the right side for EXISTING USERS and click the LOGIN button.

DELPROS allows you to save your incomplete application and return to it later to finish the process. You only have six (6) months to submit your application once you begin.

  • If you do not submit your application within six months of starting it, you will be required to restart the entire online application again.

You may check the status of your application online throughout the entire application process by using the “View Application Status” feature in DELPROS on your e-License dashboard.

  1. Know the requirements for the license you are pursuing.
  2. Request and gather all documents required to upload on the Attachments page. All information and forms are located on your profession’s webpages.
On the ATTACHMENTS page of your application, you may be instructed to:

  • either “attach” or “upload” the required document(s) directly to your application. This means you will find the document(s) saved on your computer or device and upload it to your application.
  • click “acknowledge.” This means you will either have to mail the documents yourself or request the “third-party” mail the document(s) directly to the Board office.
    • Examples of “third-party forms” are transcripts from schools, employment verifications from a supervisor, and license verifications from another state.
  • Forms requiring a supervisor signature, seal, or notary may have to be MAILED to the Board office directly UNLESS the document specifically indicates to UPLOAD the document.

The requirements for this license type are provided in the following section(s).

In addition to submitting the application and fee in DELPROS, you must submit:

  • A State of Delaware and Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check (CBC). Go to the Criminal Background Check Process page to find the Service Code required to obtain a State of Delaware and Federal Bureau of Investigation criminal background check. Once you have your Service Code, you will be directed to the IdentoGO website for instructions to complete the fingerprinting process.
    • Criminal background checks completed for any other purpose (e.g., employment, licensure in other states) will not meet this requirement.
  • State/Jurisdiction Licensure Verification sent directly to the Board office from each state or jurisdiction in which you currently hold or have ever held a license.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification. Online courses are not accepted.
  • U.S.-educated applicants – An official transcript sent directly from the school. The school must be accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE).
    • The transcript must show that you have received a degree in physical therapy.
    • The physical therapy degree cannot be a transitional Doctorate of Physical Therapy degree.
  • Foreign-educated applicants (Non-CAPTE-accredited) – A credential evaluation from one of the following:


U.S. Educated Applicants

You must PASS the NPTE before submitting your application for licensure.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Request documentation (e.g., transcripts, criminal background check, verifications etc.) before submitting your application in DELPROS.

  • If you need to take the exam, the Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) determines whether you are eligible to take the NPTE based on your education and other guidelines. For more information see FSBPT/Exam Candidate Information.
  • If you have already passed the exam, arrange for the FSBPT to send your your national examination scores to the Board office.


Foreign Educated Applicants

The Board determines whether you are eligible to take the NPTE based on your education and other guidelines. For more information, see the License Law or the Rules and Regulations. The Board office will send you email notifications about your eligibility.

In addition to submitting the application and fee in DELPROS, you must do the following:

  • If you need to take the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE), you must register for and schedule the examination in addition to submitting an application and fee for a license in DELPROS. For more information about the exam, including the Candidate Handbook, see NPTE.
  • If you have already passed the exam, arrange for the Board office to receive your national examination scores, sent to the Board office.


Temporary License by Examination

If you would like to apply for a temporary license to work in Delaware while awaiting to take the NPTE, you must submit the items in the previous section in DELPROS and meet the following requirements:

  • have already applied for the permanent license by examination.
  • have a job and work under the direct supervision of a Delaware-licensed Physical Therapist or Athletic Trainer in Delaware.
  • only work in Delaware.

The following rules also apply:

  • The Board office will only issue your temporary license when it has received all required documentation other than verification of your passing exam scores.
  • The temporary license is issued for three months. The Board must approve any extension.

If you fail the exam, the temporary license will expire immediately.

In addition to submitting the application, fee, and supporting documentation required in the Requirements for All Applicants section, you must submit the following in DELPROS:

  • Your national examination scores, sent directly to the Board office from one of the following:
    • Your original state of licensure, or
    • Federation of State Boards of Physical Therapy (FSBPT) – see Score Transfer Service.
  • Proof that you have completed two hours of training in ethics related to the practice of physical therapy.
Whether you can reinstate your license or you must reapply for licensure depends on how long your license has expired. Use the following table to determine if you must reinstate or reapply. The following is required in addition to the items in the Requirements for All Applicants section above:

  • Proof of the required continuing education units (CEUs) completed during the previous 24 months prior of reinstating or reapplying. You must enter your CEUs into the DELPROS CE Tracker from your e-License Dashboard in DELPROS.

IF your license is expired and it has been … THEN you must… AND provide proof of…
within five years from the license expiration date reinstate your license CEUs pursuant to the following proration schedule:
  • fewer than 12 months after the license expiration date
  • No CEUs required.
  • at least 12 months but less than 24 months after the license expiration date
  • 1.5 CEUs to include 0.2 units of Ethics.
  • at least 24 months after the license expiration date
  • 3.0 CEUs to include 0.2 units of Ethics.
five years or more after the license expiration date and you do NOT hold an active license in another jurisdiction reapply for your license 3.0 CEUs to include 0.2 units of Ethics.
five or more years after the license expiration date and you HOLD an active license in another jurisdiction only 0.2 units of Ethics.
