License Renewal

Information About Renewals

Professional Counselor, Chemical Dependency Professional, Professional Art Therapist, and Marriage and Family Therapist licenses expire on September 30 of even-numbered years (e.g., 2022, 2024). Associate Counselor, Associate Art Therapist, and Associate Marriage and Family Therapist licenses expire two years from the date they are issued.

A few months before the expiration date of your license, a renewal notice will be sent to the email address on the record. This notice will explain how to access your online renewal application in DELPROS, our online portal. To complete the online renewal application, you must log-in to your account, answer questions, and use a credit card to pay your renewal fee.

All notices about professional licenses, such as renewal and audit notices, will be sent by email only. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date so that all the notices we send reach you. To check and update your contact information online, click on Manage Profile link in DELPROS.

MENTAL HEALTH INTERSTATE TELEHEALTH REGISTRATION

This Telehealth Registration expires on September 30 of even-numbered years (2022, 2024). An active license must be renewed in DELPROS every two years before the expiration date.

During each renewal, you must attest that:

you hold at least one active license issued by another state’s licensing authority or board, and
all licenses that you hold or have ever held are in good standing.

ACTIVE LICENSES

An active license must be renewed in DELPROS every two years before the expiration date. During renewal, you are asked to attest that you have completed the required continuing education units (CEs).

For information about CE requirements and audits, click on the Continuing Education and Audit Information webpage or see Section 12.2 of the Board’s Rules and Regulations. After the renewal, a percentage of licensees are randomly selected for audit of CE.

All Associates:
You may only renew your Associate license two times. This means that you may hold your license for up to six years, depending on when it was issued. You do not need any CE to renew.

EXPIRED LICENSES

If you do not renew your license before the expiration date, your license will expire. It is illegal to practice in Delaware while your license is expired.

You may submit a late renewal application up to one year after the expiration date in DELPROS. You must pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. Even though you can submit a late renewal application, do not resume practicing until your license is actually renewed to active status. The late period is not a “grace period.”

If you fail to renew within one year, the license will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, you must apply in DELPROS as a new applicant.

INACTIVE & REACTIVATING LICENSES

If you hold an active license but are not practicing in Delaware, you may request to place your license in inactive status by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS and paying the status change fee. You must request inactive status before your late renewal period ends (September 30 of odd years). You cannot practice in Delaware while your license is in inactive status. Your license may remain in inactive status for up to five years.

To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reactivate your license by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. For more information on requesting inactive status or reactivating an inactive license, see Sections 12.5.2 of the Board’s Rules and Regulations.

If you fail to reactivate during the period, your license will terminate. If you wish to resume practicing after your license has terminated, you must reapply in DELPROS as a new applicant.
