Information About Renewals

All Accountancy permits expire on June 30 of odd years (e.g., 2019, 2021).

A few months before the expiration date of your permit, a renewal notice will be sent to the email address on the record. This notice will explain how to access your online renewal application in DELPROS, our online portal. To complete the online renewal application, you must log-in to your account, answer questions, and use a credit card to pay your renewal fee.

All notices about professional licenses, such as renewal and audit notices, will be sent by email only. It is important to keep your contact information up-to-date so that all the notices we send reach you. To check and update your contact information online, click on Manage Profile link in DELPROS.

An active permit must be renewed in DELPROS every two years before the expiration date. During renewal, you are asked to attest that you have completed the required continuing professional education (CPE). You must complete at least 20 hours of CPE each year of the reporting period for a total of 40 for the two-year period. For complete information on CPE requirements, see the Continuing Education and Audit Information webpage and the following sections in the Board’s Rules and Regulations:

  • CPAs – Section 7.2.
  • PAs – Section 9.2

After the renewal, a percentage of licensees, with the exception of firms, are randomly selected for audit of their CPE.

Firm Permits must be renewed in DELPROS every two years before the expiration date. During the online renewal, persons completing renewal applications on behalf of firms will be asked about a change in:

  • the legal form of the firm (e.g., Limited Liability Company to Incorporated).

A change in the legal form of a firm requires submitting a new firm application, for more information see the Board’s Rule 10.8.2.

It is illegal to operate a firm in Delaware while the permit is expired.

If you do not renew your permit before the expiration date, it will expire. It is illegal to practice in Delaware while your CPA or PA permit is expired. You may file a late renewal application up to one year after the expiration date in DELPROS. You must pay a late fee in addition to the renewal fee. Even though you can file a late renewal application, do not resume practicing until your license is actually renewed to active status. The late period is not a “grace period.”

If you fail to renew within one year, the permit will terminate. To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reapply in DELPROS for a new firm permit. See 24 Del. C. §124.

If you hold an active license but are not practicing in Delaware, you may request to place your license in inactive status by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. You must request inactive status before your late renewal period ends (June 30 of following even year). Inactive License Requests must go before the Board of Accountancy at their next scheduled meeting for approval. Inactive License Requests are ONLY permitted for C.P.A. Permits.  You cannot practice in Delaware while your license is in inactive status.

To maintain your inactive license, you will be required to complete an online renewal in DELPROS every 2 years.  At that time, you will receive a renewal notice approximately 90 days before the expiration date of your inactive license.  No CE is required at the time of renewal.  You are not allowed to practice in Delaware while your license is inactive.

To resume practicing in Delaware, you must reactivate your license by submitting a Service Request in DELPROS. For more information on reactivating an inactive license, see Section 5.5.6 of the Board’s Rules and Regulations.

If you fail to reactivate before the end of the late renewal period, your license will terminate. If you wish to resume practicing after your license has terminated, you must reapply in DELPROS as a new applicant.
