Mandatory Training

Introduction

To renew your license, you are required to attest that you have completed mandatory training required by Delaware law on

  • how to recognize child sexual and physical abuse, exploitation and domestic violence, and
  • your reporting obligations under the Medical Practice Act and 16 Del. C. §903.

The mandatory training is required by Section 1723 of the Medical Practice Act, effective August 1, 2010. It applies to everyone licensed by the Board of Medical Licensure and Discipline including Physician Assistants, Respiratory Care Practitioners, Paramedics, Genetic Counselors, Eastern Medicine Practitioners, Acupuncture Practitioners, Acupuncture Detoxification Specialists, Midwifery Practitioners, and Polysomnographers as well as Physicians.

The Medical Society of Delaware has approved this mandatory training for AMA PRA Category 1 Credit ™.

Where to Take the Mandatory Training

The mandatory training meets the requirements of the Child Protection Accountability Commission (CPAC). To take the required online Mandatory Reporting Training course(s), you have the following options starting January 1, 2025:

  • Option 1: Physicians and medical professionals can take the regularly offered ‘Mandatory Reporting for Medical Professionals’ training.
    • This training is an hour (1 hour) both in length and ACCME accreditation. This option is required for individuals who are completing their first licensure period.
  • Option 2: If an individual has previously taken the Mandatory Reporting Training, they can take a shorter refresher course titled ‘Mandatory Reporting for Medical Professionals – Refresher’. The refresher course is meant to be accompanied by one of the four new advanced courses. The new advanced courses include training on:
    1. Abusive Head Trauma,
    2. Pediatric Drug Exposures,
    3. Medical Neglect, and
    4. Sentinel Injuries.
    • The refresher and the advanced supplemental courses are each a half hour (30 minutes) in length and in ACCME accreditation. For those who choose this option, they must complete both the refresher and a supplemental training course to meet the 1 hour requirement.

To register for the training, go to https://stateofdelaware.csod.com/default.aspx?c=courts-oca. Navigate to the bottom of the webpage to complete the registration process. For more assistance in registering, see the Self-Registration Guide guide.
