Examinations

Examinations Required

All applicants, regardless of years of practice, are required to pass the Delaware Practical Board Examination in dentistry or dental hygiene and Delaware Jurisprudence Examination except for dental hygienists applying by reciprocity.

Dental hygienists applying by reciprocity are required to pass only the Jurisprudence Examination.

For additional information about Dental Hygiene application requirements, see Dental Hygienist License or about Dental application requirements, see Dentist License.

To apply to take the required exam(s), you must first create a DELPROS user account. Go to the DELPROS online portal, then click on Apply/Manage a License and Service Requests. If you are already an existing user, log in with your email address and password under the existing user section. If you are a new user, you must create a new account using either of the options below:

  • Select the “I Don’t Have a License” option if you do not currently hold or previously applied for a Delaware license and do not have a login through the portal; or
  • Select the “I Have a License” option if you currently hold or previously applied for a Delaware license.

After creating your user account or logging into the DELPROS online portal, you may begin your application for licensure to take the required exam(s).

When the Board has reviewed and approved your application, you will receive an email notification stating you have been approved to sit for the exam.

Re-Taking the Practical Exam

You have two years from the date of your submitted application in DELPROS to pass the exam. You will be required to complete a new online application if your application expires.

If you have failed the practical exam and wish to re-take it, you must go to DELPROS and log in to your e-License Dashboard. Click on Service Request in the top navigation bar, then click APPLY FOR A NEW SERVICE REQUEST and select the Request for Re-Examination service request type option.

After review and approval of your request, you will receive an email notification for approval to re-take the exam.

After Passing all Exams

After you take and pass all exams, allow up to two weeks for the Board office to receive your official examination score(s). Once the Board office receives your passing score(s) and validates that you have met all requirements for licensure, your license will be issued.

You will receive an email notification stating your license has been issued including any additional details about license renewal and/or continuing education requirements.
