Continuing Education & Audit Requirement

The amount of continuing medical education  (CME) that you are required to complete depends on what license you hold and when your license was issued during the full licensure period.

Entering Continuing Education in the CE Tracker

Continuing Education (CE) is tracked in DELPROS, the Delaware Professional Regulation Online Service. To enter your CE, you must first create a DELPROS user account. To go to the DELPROS online portal, first click on the Apply/Manage a License and Service Request tile from the Home page of this site. If you are already an existing user, log in with your email address and password under the existing user section. If you are a new user, you must create a new account using either of the options below:

  • Select the “I Don’t Have a License” option if you do not currently hold or previously applied for a Delaware license and do not have a login through the portal OR
  • Select the “I have a License” option if you currently hold or previously applied for a Delaware license.

After creating your user account or logging into the DELPROS online portal, you may begin entering your CE.

  • Click on the CONTINUING EDUCATION link in the dark blue banner at the top of the page
  • Click on ADD COURSE button
  • After choosing your profession, complete the other fields and click on SAVE
  • You will get a message of Success if the information you entered was created successfully
  • Click on CONTINUE to add more courses, upload documents, or delete entries if you made an error

When you are done, click on your Dashboard on the dark blue banner at the top of the page to renew your license or choose another service.


Continuing Education – Physician MD, DO

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 20 hours of approved CME

Active Physician’s must complete 40 hours of approved CME during each full licensure renewal period between April 1 and March 31 odd-numbered years (2019-2021, etc.).

The CME may include:

  • Category I courses approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) or equivalent courses approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) are acceptable.
  • Approved medical or osteopathic resident or fellowship training programs may be requested to submit proof of satisfactory participation in lieu of approved CME credits.
  • Certification by the Medical Society of Delaware that you have completed such CME since the time of your last renewal of your registration shall be acceptable proof of completion of these requirements.

Audit Requirements – Physician MD, DO

Random audits are performed by the Board to ensure compliance with the license requirements. License holders selected for the random audit must verify that they have completion of the required CME, as applicable and any other information required by the Board to confirm their continued eligibility for the license.

Do not upload any CME documentation into DELPROS unless notified that you have been selected for audit.

If you are selected for audit, you must upload a copy of:

  • the certificate of attendance for each CME course that you entered in the CE Tracker in DELPROS

At a minimum, the documentation for each course must show:

  • Your name
  • Course Name
  • Course Provider
  • Course Dates
  • Hours of Attendance

Examples include: attendance records and/or completion certificates.

 


Continuing Education – Physician Assistant

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do CME
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 50 hours of approved CME

Active Physician Assistants must complete 100 hours of approved CME during each full licensure renewal periods between April 1 and March 31 even-numbered years (2018-2020, etc.).

The CME must include at least:

  • Current certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA),

OR

  • 50 hours of Category I and 50 hours of Category 2 courses approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) or equivalent courses approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA)

Audit Requirements – Physician Assistant

Random audits are performed by the Board to ensure compliance with the license requirements. License holders selected for the random audit must verify that they have completion of the required CME, as applicable and any other information required by the Board to confirm their continued eligibility for the license.

Do not upload any CME documentation into DELPROS unless notified that you have been selected for audit.

If you are selected for audit, you must upload a copy of:

  • your NCCPA CME record OR
  • the certificate of attendance for each approved CME course that you entered in the CE Tracker in DELPROS

At a minimum, the documentation for each course must show:

  • Your name
  • Course Name
  • Course Provider
  • Course Dates
  • Hours of Attendance

 


Continuing Education – Administrative Medical

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do CME
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 20 hours of approved CME

Active Administrative Medical’s must complete 40 hours of approved CME during each full licensure renewal period between April 1 and March 31 odd-numbered years (2019-2021, etc.).

The CME may include:

  • Category I courses approved by the American Medical Association (AMA) or equivalent courses approved by the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) are acceptable.
  • Approved medical or osteopathic resident or fellowship training programs may be requested to submit proof of satisfactory participation in lieu of approved continuing medical education credits.
  • Certification by the Medical Society of Delaware that you have completed such continuing medical education since the time of your last renewal of your registration shall be acceptable proof of completion of these requirements.

Audit Requirements – Administrative Medical

Continuing Education – Respiratory Care Practitioner

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do CE
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 10 hours of traditional approved CE

Active Respiratory Care Practitioner’s must complete 20 hours of approved CE during each full licensure renewal period between December 1 and November 30 even-numbered years (2018-2020, etc.).

The CE must include:

  • At least 10 of the required 20 hours shall be from traditional programs attended either in person or by the use of telecommunication technology that allows the attendee to interact with and ask questions of the presenter during the presentation.
  • No more than 10 of the required 20 hours may be obtained in non-traditional programs in which the participant learns the material at their own pace and place of choosing and demonstrates their mastery of the course content by examination in order to earn contact hours.

Audit Requirements – Respiratory Care Practitioner

Proof of attendance may include a completion certificate, signed letter from the sponsor attesting to your attendance, or report of passing test score.


Continuing Education – Acupuncture Practitioner

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do Professional Development Activity (PDA)
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 15 hours of approved PDA points

Active Acupuncture Practitioner’s must complete 30 hours of approved PDA points during each full licensure renewal period between April 1 and March 31 odd-numbered years (2019-2021, etc.).

The PDA must include at least:

  • 15 of the required 30 PDA points to enhance core knowledge, skills and abilities and shall be in biomedicine and/or one of the five branches of Oriental medicine (e.g., acupuncture, Chinese herbs, Chinese dietary therapy, Qigong, Asian bodywork therapy).
  • 4 of the 15 core PDA points to be taken in safety and/or ethics (e.g., CPR, herbal safety, universal precautions, clean needle techniques, ethics and liability, public health reporting requirements).
  • The remaining 15 PDA points may be taken in electives that directly contribute to a licensee’s knowledge or practice of acupuncture (including Western science and medical practices, medical ethics, medical research, practice management, adjunctive therapies, patient education, and disaster relief training, etc.).

Audit Requirements – Acupuncture Practitioner

Continuing Education – Eastern Medicine Practitioner

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do Professional Development Activity (PDA)

Continuing Education – Genetic Counselor

If this is your first renewal, and you are licensed:

  • less than one year – you are not required to do continuing education units (CEU)
  • more than one year, but less than two years – you are required to complete 1.5 hours of approved CEU

Active Genetic Counselors must complete 3 hours of approved CEU during each full licensure renewal period between April 1 and March 31 odd-numbered years (2017-2019, 2019-2021, etc.).

Audit Requirements – Genetic Counselor

Random audits are performed by the Board to ensure compliance with the license requirements.
